In Memory

FLORENCE MARIA HANEY
1922-2013

On the afternoon of September 9th 2013, our beautiful mother, Florence Maria Haney, former owner of Las Posas Travel in Camarillo, California secured a first class, non-stop, one way flight on the Arms of the Angels and entered into Kingdom of Heaven. She was born on August 25, 1922 to Patrick and Catherine Gallagher in Newfoundland, Canada.

Mom was educated at Presentation Convent and there, began her love of music which was a major part of her life. In 1943, she met and later married Col Gaspar Frank Blunda USAF . They lived all over the world and eventually settled in Camarillo, CA with their 2 children. After his death in 1964 she continued her love of traveling and as mentioned above owned a travel agency for over 20 years. In 1982 she married Ralph Haney. He died in 1984 after only 2 years of marriage.

Our mother loved beauty and surrounded herself with many beautiful things, however her true happiness came from having her children and grandchildren close to her. She treasured her relationships with her amazing friends, who fondly referred to her as “Flo-luv”, and have been ever present in her life and ours.

Mom loved singing and dancing and played the lead roles in several stage productions over the years. In addition to music, she had a true passion for the game of Bridge. She played almost every day and became a Silver Life Master, something of which she was very proud. Even at 90 years old, she remained independent, vibrant and strong. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out.

To keep her memory alive, she leaves her children Byron Blunda and Francine Gil. Her 3 grandsons Abraham, Andrew and Rob, 2 sisters, Genevieve Unger and Rita McDonald sisters in law, Elizabeth and Cecilia Gallagher as well as a large family of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, throughout the US, Canada and the UK. She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Gerald, Patrick, Frank and Raymond, sisters; Peg, Kathleen & Loretta and former daughter in law, Jane Holmes. She will be so greatly missed.

May the sound of happy music and the lilt of Irish laughter, fill your heart with gladness, that stays forever after…

A Memorial will be held, Sunday September 22, 2013 at 11:00am at Griffin Family Funeral Chapel, 1075 East Daily Drive, Camarillo, CA (805) 482-1156.
